Brief History of the Faculty
The Faculty of Business and Economics was set up in the year 2002 G.C. Though being in the stage of infancy the faculty has been able to notch up enough success which is evident through its successful handling of the various Degree and Diploma Programmes in the subjects of Accounting, Economics, Business Management, Business Education Secretarial Sciences, Marketing, and Banking and Finance both in the regular and extension segments. Its experience in training diploma students in the fields of accenting, secretarial science, management and others before it was established as a faculty helped for the successful handling of degree programmes . The Faculty is currently enrolling about 1500 students in the regular stream.The creation and expansion of this faculty is in direct response to the growing need of developing well qualified professionals who will have the capacity to lead the various industries of this country from strength to strength. Apart from this it is felt that the people who are already working should be given an equal opportunity to sharpen their skills as well as add relevant qualifications to their resumes. Equal stressing being laid on providing part time or extension programs whose standards of teaching would be as good as , if not better than that of the regular program, because our aims is to attract the best and the brightest in the industry. Thus the faculty has taken upon itself the dual responsibilities of moulding the minds of teenagers of this country as well as sharpening the intellect of the already employed.
Objectives of the Faculty
The faculty of business and economics plans to provide Quality Education to Strengthen develop and promote the professional and technical skills of the students in the area of Accounting, Economics, Management and Business Education Specifically.- To produce high and middle level skilled manpower trained in Economics.
- To conduct research activities so as to provide valuable information to the policy makers.
- To provide consultancy services to investors and businessmen.
- Offering short term training
- It tries to bring professionalism in the career in Accounting.
- To make the students well versed in the functional Areas of Accounting, Finance and Auditing.
- To furnish middle level all rounded and flexible manpower with good understanding of the various business functions.
- To produce top- level managers with the generalized business and administrative skills with proper understanding of business organizations and their roles in the economy.
- To offer short term training, consultancy services and other related services in both government and non- governmental sectors in Bahir Dar and elsewhere in the regional state
Programs of the Faculty
The Faculty of Business an Economics currently provides three years degree programme in regular and four years programme in extension. This faculty is also undertaking a summer degree programme in the fields of Economics and Management. In the extension programme, diploma courses are given in the fields of accounting, secretarial science, banking and finance and sales management. The faculty has opened business education department since septemeber2004.Facilities
The faculty has two storey building which can be used for lectures. Besides, there are offices for instructors, library, typing room and one vehicle. The faculty's new campus in under construction.Future Plans
The faculty plans to expand its capacity. Currently, it is concentrating developing the educational status of it's staff and undertaking the Degree programmes effectively. But, in the future, in line with the strategic plan of the university, it plans to open postgraduate studies in some fields and expanding the capacity and enrollment of distance education.Link and Collaboration
