STRATEGIC INVESTMENT AREAS
A
coordinated approach to provide fertile sites for
investment
There
is unbalanced, uncoordinated and scattered development in Addis Ababa. This resulted in under-utilization of potential development sites, including the main city center. The lack of efficient system for re/developing these underutilized areas, long bureaucratic procedures and resource limitation have created unfavorable investment environment and difficulties for private developers and the public at large. The result was the misuse of potential resources, further deterioration of different areas in the
city especially the city center

development in the first phase are

Facilitate the development of International organizations mixed residential,
business, and commercial use buildings in
Kazanchis
.
Redevelop areas from
Mesquel Square to Olympia
and to Beklo-Bet;
Churchill Road; Wello-Sefer junction, frontages of Tele and Lalibela
construction; Senga-Tera; and Merkato;
.
Redevelop Regional
Transport centers
at Laghaar, Kaliti and Ayer-Tena
.
Facilitate main Sub-center
development at Megenagna, Ayer-Tena, and
Kaliti Industry and warehouses at, Gergi, Kaliti-Akaki,
Mekanisa and Kolfe,
Business and commerce at Tor-Hailoch, Bole junction and Mekanissa; City
Park recreational facilities at Gerji
.
Develop
Recreational and green areas at Intoto and Yeka mountains;
Freight terminals at Kalliti and Akaki;
Industry and warehouses in
Kotebe
.
Establish Urban
Development Companies or Agencies (UDECOM or UDA)
for financing and provision of necessary infrastructure,
and integration of
development activities.

Establish Investment
Bureau for promoting of development opportunities and
facilitating development activities in the
city

Facilitate
re/development of Strategic Investment Areas by providing
incentives for investors

Introduce strong
partnership between the City Government, Public and the
Private sector.

Take the necessary
planning and design measures in advance for the
preparation of Strategic Investment Areas

Enact coordinated
infrastructure provision and serviced land supply

conducive

Prepare Local
Development Plans for specific Strategic Investment Areas:
