ETC introduced sound tariff adjustments on its Internet Service Rates

June 13, 2005

Customers are to enjoy the ever lowest tariffs on all sorts of Internet services

The Ethiopian Telecommunications Corporation (ETC) has been serving its Internet customers with the    launching of Broadband Internet Network having high capacity and high speed as well as with the lower tariff than ever compared to the earlier Internet services provided through the utilization of the Narrowband Internet   Network.

The Broadband Internet Network has the capacity to accommodate more than 103,000 Internet service         subscribers across the country out of whom 100,000 are Dial-Up Internet service subscribers while over 3,000 are Leased-Line Internet service users.

Following the launching of the high-capacity and high-speed Broadband Internet Network, ETC has also introduced gorgeous tariff adjustments on the provision of Internet service with a view to enhancing the wide provision of as well as getting access to the service across the nation.

To this effect, ETC has already created a fertile ground for governmental and non-governmental       organizations, business enterprises, private and other Internet service users to enable them in getting access to various Internet services including Dial up, Leased-Line and Shared DSL internet services with the ever lowest tariff in accordance with their demand and interest of services.

1. Most of the home-based private Internet users are expected to benefit from the Dial Up Internet service following the enhancement of the capacity and speed of the service as well as the introduction of the ever-lowest tariff on the service to the customers.

The installation fee of the earlier Dial-Up Internet service rate was Birr 332.00, which has currently been lowered to Birr 156.00 showing a sharp decline of Birr 176.00 (i.e. 72 % price drop off).

Accordingly, the current monthly rent fee of Birr 60.00 and the payment fee of 900 minutes service charge have also shown a Birr 122.00 (68%) reduction against the previous service charge fee. Similar price cut has also been effected on the service charge of the Dial-Up Internet service.

Dial-Up Internet service subscribers were earlier used to be charged up to Birr 99.00 for the 900-1,800 minutes of Internet service that has now got reduced to an average fee of only Birr 50.00. Similarly Customers were used to be charged up to Birr 144.00 for the provision of 1,800-3,600 minutes of Internet        services that currently showed a sharp decline to the average of Birr 99.00 for the same amount of service        provided.

2. Tariff adjustment has also been introduced on the Leased-Line Internet Service in a bid to benefit more numbers of Internet clients including most governmental and non-governmental organizations as well as virtual Internet    Service Providers (ISPs) with world-class standard, high-capacity and high-speed Internet services.

The service charge of the Leased Line Internet service has very much been lowered than the service fee used to be charged while using Digital Data Network in the provision of various Internet services.

To this effect, the earlier installation fee of Birr 1,872 needed for the Leased Line Internet service has now been   reduced to Birr 1,082.00 showing a sharp cut of Birr 790.00 (53%). The monthly service fee rate of Birr 4,752.00 has now been down rated to Birr 1,296.00 with Birr 3,456.00 (114 %) price cut.

ETC has also introduced the following service charge with only 50% of payment needed from its customers on Broadband Multimedia Network installation with a view to encouraging Leased-Line Internet Service users.
