2. International roaming service
Introduction
ETC offers its post-paid mobile subscribers GSM International roaming in different countries, a service which allows ETC post-paid mobile customers to make and receive calls using their own mobile phone and ETC SIM card on any of the networks that ETC has roaming agreements with. Customers are still contactable on their existing Mobile phone number, and any calls they make abroad will be charged to their Mobile phone account back in Ethiopia .So, no more public pay phones, phone cards or expensive hotel charges!

For International Roaming Feature Activation in ETC
  • Customers need to confirm that ETC has a roaming agreement in the country they will be visiting.
  • A deposit of the equivalent of USD 500 is required.
  • Customers need to contact ETC Mobile Customer Service Division 3 days prior to departure to apply for International Roaming Feature activation.

Up on arrival to destination:
  • Turn the mobile handset on. Provided you are within the coverage area, you should be able to automatically register on the available network within a minute.
  • You can select the network of your choice by scrolling through the menu on your handset and manually select from the list of available networks.
  • To dial Ethiopia Dial +251 followed by the area code and telephone number. NB: Remember to drop the 0 prefix of the area code eg. +251 1 for Addis Ababa. For Mobile numbers dial +251 9  followed with the rest of the number.
  • To dial local numbers in the country you are in, dial the area code and the number, as you would in Ethiopia.
  • Callers from Ethiopia will dial your normal Mobile phone number.

Call Charging

  • All charges will be passed directly to the mobile account in Ethiopia, where the Mobile telephone bill will itemise the total usage. Outgoing calls are charged at the foreign network's standard rate.
  • All calls received while roaming will also be charged to the roaming subscriber account in ETHIOPIA. Remember, it is important to avoid these charges otherwise, the caller pays for a normal call to a Mobile phone while the roaming subscriber would pay for the international part of the call.
  • Roaming tariffs differ from country to country. Check the tariffs that apply to the country you are visiting before you leave.

Useful Hints :
  • Do not forget to Pack the mobile handset manual.
  • Make sure that the mobile handset charger has the correct electrical fittings for the countries you are visiting.
