Mission Statement

The Mission of the Wolisso Multipurpose Community Telecentre (WMCT) is to provide Information and Communication Technology facility which supports  information to community members.

Background
The WMCT is an idea that originated out of a pilot Multipurpose Community Telecentre which would ensure that most people in the community have access to information on issues that affect them on a daily basis.

The British Council originated the idea in October 1997 and decided to initiate the pilot Telecentre project in a site near Addis Ababa. Proximity, available infrastructure, including the population number made Wolisso an ideal place to start the project. An extensive consultation was made with the Oromiya Regional State Council, Oromiya Culture and Information Bureau, West Shoa Culture and Information Department, Wolisso City Council and the Ethiopian Science and Technology Commission before the idea was accepted.

The Wolisso City Council maintains a modern public library which provides basic library services for the community in Wolisso. This Library was chosen as the Telecentre site because of its background in information use and exchange.
