Korem May, 22(ENA)--Work on the construction of a 115-km asphalt road linking Alamata with Betmera launched three years ago at a cost of 310 million Birr is well in progress, though it lags behind the schedule, the Ethiopian Roads Authority said.

Construction Department Manager with the Authority, Gebre-Ananiya Tsadik told a visiting journalist group that the construction work has been delayed due to the limited human resources assigned to carry out the construction work and budgetary constraints.

The Manager said now adequate manpower and material resources have been assigned and allocated for the construction work respectively, which he said, has helped to speed up the activity during the current Ethiopian fiscal year.

He said the construction of the road is scheduled to be finalized late 1997 E.C.

Project Manager, Girma Gulema said on his part that leveling of 77 kms of the road has been finalized of which 55-km was ready for asphalting.
