EU welcomes results of IGAD on SNRC
Addis Ababa, May 20(ENA)-- The European Union (EU) welcomed the results of the Inter Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) on the Somalia Reconciliation Conference (SNRC) held in Nairobi on May 6 and 7.
Statement by the Irish Embassy here on behalf of EU said it has witnessed the presence of all IGAD ministers involved in the Somali peace process and their common position on the future development of the SNRC.
The EU also reaffirmed the crucial importance of inclusiveness and the Somali ownership.
It also called upon all leaders in Somalia and all relevant Somali forces to rise to the challenges of the process that has reached a decisive stage to take part in the IGAD consultations observing maximum restraint and the cesassion of hostilities on the ground.
The EU noted the commitment of IGAD Foreign Ministers to use their influence to persuade missing Somali leaders to return to Nairobi.
It also reiterated the responsibility of all states to strictly abide by the UN arms embargo. The statement added that EU stands ready to provide its support to achieve an early and positive conclusion to the SNRC.
