Association to erect monument honoring Red Terror martyrs

Addis Ababa, May 18(ENA)-- The Association for the Erection of Martyrs Memorial Monument said the activity of erecting memorial monument and museum in honor of Ethiopians massacred in the streets and squares during the infamous "Red Terror’ was in progress.

Briefing reporters in connection with day dedicated for the martyrs on the 27th of May, executives of the association said the a corner stone has already been laid for the erection of the monument at the Meskel Square.

The erection of the memorial monument will inspire Ethiopian people to democracy and justice, they said.

The association also called on all Ethiopians to contribute money, materials and expertise to realize the project.

May 27, was decided as memorial day for Ethiopian martyrs murdered during the fascistic regime of the Derg.

The day would be observed at Maskel Square where a minute of silence will be observed in commemoration of the men and women who sacrificed their lives for democracy and justice.
