Children's AIDS Fund Visiting Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, May 18(ENA)--The Children's AIDS Fund (CAF) a global organization that works to limit suffering of children and their families caused by HIV disease is visiting Ethiopia to identify existing, effective and sustainable HIV/AIDS programs in the country to provide technical assistance and help build capacity through shared resources and knowledge.

The Children's AIDS Fund screened a video documentary to journalists here Tuesday at the American Embassy that shows the achievements of Uganda, which had highly been affected by HIV disease earlier.

The video shows the extent Uganda has committed itself to reduce the spread of HIV disease to 6 percent in 2001 that had been 21 percent in 1991.

According to the documentary, though Uganda had limited resources to treat those infected in their societies, they were diligent in their efforts to reduce the spread of the epidemic using the methodology referred to as the ''ABC Model''.

The documentary further shows the significant role the leadership of Uganda has played to effectively reduce the spread of the epidemic.

The first cases of AIDS were identified in Uganda in 1982.
