| About Bahir Dar University |
Welcome to the official web-site of BAHIR DAR University - one of the biggest universities in Federal Democratic Republic ETHOIPIA, which has more then 20 thousand students and more then 400 lecturers.
Bahir Dar University was inaugurated in May 2001 (1992 E.C.) when Bahir Dar Teachers College and Bahir Dar Polytechnic Institute joined together to become the Education and Engineering Faculties, respectively, of the new University.
The two faculties provide degree-level teaching and expertise in Education and Engineering for the Country. The University has recently added two faculties, the Faculty of Business and Economics, and the Faculty of Low with courses in subjects including Accounting, Economics, Business Management, Law and Ethics.
In addition, the University is set to further expand. the Textile Engineering Department is in the process of becoming a fully-fledged faculty.
Facilities include libraries, computer laboratories, internet access and modern laboratories with the latest equipment. The University upgraded its computer facilities based on campus-wide Local Area Networks, with enhanced internet and email access.
The University is situated in relaxed surroundings on the edge of Bahir Dar town; the Engineering Faculty campus is a stone's throw from Lake Tana and walking distance from the town centre; the Education faculty is at the southern end of town, on a site adjoining the Blue Nile River. Staff accomodation and student dorms are provided on each campus.
Bahir Dar is a cheerful and relaxing town to stay in, combining the bustle of town life with the gentler pace of the rural suburbs. Staff and students can enjoy the stimulus of academic life and the on-campus facilities, or the variety of bars and restaurants in town; for something more relaxing, boat trips on Lake Tana, or coffee by the Lake-side are possible. There is something for everyone, and staff and students can combine work and recreation in one of Ethiopia's foremost holiday destinations. We hope you enjoy 'visiting' our web-site and then consider either visiting us or studying with us.
