All payments have to be made directly to the service providers and not to IFMP. You may arrange with the guide or your tour operator to handle it for you. Basic rates in Birr (about 8 Birr buy one US$) are listed in the table below. Basic rate means the price due for satisfactory service. In every camp a list is on display which specifies possible price deductions to be applied to different kinds of deficiencies.
For an order of magnitude consider a group of 4 coming for 2 days (one night) in
a car of their own. Payment is for 2 days of guiding (60), two days of horse
handler (30), 6 horses (including one packhorse and the guide’s horse) on each
of the two days (240), one overnight stay of 4 persons (100), and two times the
car park rate (40). The total payment is 470 Birr or 60 US$. The total per
person and day is less than 8 US$ to which you will have to add the cost of food
and beverages. Bring your own professional cook and it will still be relatively
cheap. Terms [continue]. 14 September, 2000
